The missing teenager has been identified as Mirajul Haque, a resident of Lakhipur in Goalpara district.

According to police, Mirajul had visited the bridge with his family for an outing. Witnesses told police that he lost his balance while trying to take a selfie and fell into the river.

A search operation was launched immediately after the incident. However, as of Sunday, the teenager remained untraced, officials from Bharalumukh Police Station said.

The incident comes days after the Guwahati Police imposed strict restrictions on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, prohibiting people from stopping, parking vehicles, taking selfies, clicking photographs or filming reels on the bridge.

The restrictions were introduced following reports of birthday celebrations and gatherings on the bridge, with authorities citing concerns over traffic congestion and public safety.
