GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Traffic Police on Thursday, June 18, issued a detailed traffic advisory for the upcoming Ambubachi Mela 2026 to ensure the smooth movement of devotees, visitors and emergency services during the annual religious congregation at Maa Kamakhya Temple.

Addressing the media, DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora said the traffic regulations will remain in force from June 22 to June 26 to facilitate safe passage for pilgrims, common citizens, emergency vehicles and vulnerable road users, including children, women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.Deputy commissioner of Kamrup(M) Swapneel Paul and the Ambubachi Mahayog committee members was also present in the press briefing.
As per the advisory, no private vehicle will be allowed to enter from the Kamakhya foothill towards Maa Kamakhya Temple during the mela period. However, emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire tenders, oxygen supply vehicles and GMC garbage carriers will be exempted. Vehicles carrying water and other essential supplies may be permitted between 11 pm and 5 am.
Only vehicles possessing special car passes issued by the district administration and ferry vehicles will be allowed to travel from Pandu Temple Ghat to Maa Kamakhya Temple via Bangshibagan.
Devotees arriving from the Jalukbari side will be dropped near Gate No. 3 of the NF Railway Headquarters, while those coming from the Bharalumukh side will be dropped near Railway Gate No. 4 opposite Swagat Hospital. After dropping passengers, vehicles will proceed to designated parking areas at Adabari Bus Stand and Boripara Field.
All ASTC buses, city buses and private vehicles will use the Nilachal Flyover, avoiding the service lanes. City buses from Jalukbari will drop passengers at Boripara Police Point or Biswakarma Mandir, while buses from Bharalumukh will drop passengers at Taxi Stand or the opposite side of Boripara Police Point. No city bus will be allowed to stop at either end of the flyover.
The traffic police have designated parking facilities for pilgrims at Adabari Bus Stand, Boripara Field, ITA Machkhowa, ASTC Parking Machkhowa and Idgah Field Machkhowa.
Meanwhile, commercial goods vehicles with three wheels and above, along with slow-moving commercial carts, will face movement restrictions on several major roads, including DG Road, MG Road, AT Road, Pandu Port Road and Borbazar Road, between 5 am and 11 pm throughout the mela period.
Inter-district and long-distance buses, including ASTC services, will not be permitted to ply on DG Road, MG Road and AT Road. Pilgrim buses arriving from Kamakhya Railway Junction will be routed through PNGB Road–DG Road–Adabari Tiniali–Pandu Port Road to the temporary rest camp at Pandu Port and will exit via Sadilapur Road.
Additionally, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to move from NH-27 towards Gosala via Tetelia during the Ambubachi Mahayog.
