As per sources, police fired at their legs after they allegedly tried to push police personnel and flee during a scuffle. Police personnel also reportedly sustained minor injuries in the incident.
GMCH Superintendent Dr Devajit Choudhury said the two injured individuals were admitted to the hospital at 2.52 AM and are currently undergoing treatment.
“Both the individuals sustained a bullet injury each on their legs,” Dr Choudhury said.
The two accused were involved in an attempted snatching in Guwahati’s Kahilipara area on October 5, during which they dragged a woman by her dupatta for several metres. CCTV footage of the incident showed the woman crying for help as she was dragged along the road.
Police officials from Kahilipara Police Station said the accused failed to snatch anything from the woman, although she sustained injuries and bruises.
The accused were later arrested by Basistha Police Station officials in connection with a separate snatching incident near Lalmati on the same day.
They were identified as Prasanta Boro, 20, from Udalguri district, and Rahul Das, 25, from Kamrup district. Several stolen items were recovered from their possession.
Police had also said the accused allegedly disclosed their involvement in recent snatching incidents in Jalukbari, Kahilipara, Sualkuchi Singimari and Ulubari.
