GUWAHATI: India's five-member team won gold medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026 held in Bucaramanga, Colombia. With all five participants securing gold, India secured the World No. 1 rank jointly with China, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea and Taiwan.

The competition brought together 381 students from 87 countries. The Indian gold medallists are Kanishk Jain of Pune, Riddhesh Anant Bendale of Indore, Rishit Garg of New Delhi, Shresth Suraiya of Mumbai and Svarit Joshi of Ahmedabad.
The students were selected through India's national Olympiad programme after a multi-stage selection process. They also attended orientation camps and underwent intensive training before representing the country at the international competition.
The latest achievement extends India's record of every participant winning a medal at the International Physics Olympiad over the past decade, underlining the country's consistent performance at the global event.
