GUWAHATI: India has joined the United States and 24 other countries in an international initiative focused on shaping the development of next-generation 6G telecommunications networks.

The US Department of Commerce announced the development in a social media post, stating that the initiative aims to ensure that future networks reflect shared security priorities, boost global competitiveness and promote technological innovation.
The announcement followed a meeting between Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on the sidelines of the G20 Innovation Ministerial in North Carolina.
The two leaders discussed cooperation in 6G technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and data centres. Prasada also encouraged greater US investment under ISM 2.0 and called for stronger cooperation on AI technology and safeguards.
Prasada led the Indian delegation at the G20 Innovation Ministerial held on September 1 and 2 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The meeting concluded with the G20 Innovation Ministerial Statement, which highlighted the role of emerging technologies in driving economic growth, productivity and opportunities.
India also reiterated its focus on expanding strategic partnerships in AI, semiconductors, digital public infrastructure and robotics to promote innovation, economic growth and better quality of life.
