GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday, September 9, met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and sought a fresh push for Externally Aided Projects (EAPs) in the two northeastern states.

The meeting focused on boosting capital expenditure in the Northeast and creating new avenues for investment in physical and social infrastructure through EAPs.
Following the meeting, Sarma said the two Chief Ministers had made a strong case for speeding up Externally Aided Projects in Assam and Meghalaya, which could help open new investment channels for infrastructure development.
Sarma said Sitharaman responded positively to the proposals and assured them of a renewed push from the Centre to advance the development agenda in the region.
The discussions come as both states look to expand infrastructure investment and mobilise additional funding for physical and social development.
Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhawan Kavitha Padmanabhan and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance were also present at the meeting.
