GUWAHATI: India’s foreign exchange reserves rose to an all-time high of $729.328 billion in the week ended August 21, 2026, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Weekly Statistical Supplement released on August 28.

The country’s total reserves increased by $12.422 billion over the week, from the previous week’s level. The reserves also rose by $38.608 billion over the year.
Foreign Currency Assets (FCAs), the largest component of India’s reserves, increased by $9.482 billion during the week to $591.333 billion.
India’s gold reserves stood at $114.218 billion, following a weekly increase of $2.801 billion. The country’s Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) with the International Monetary Fund rose by $112 million to $18.852 billion, while its reserve position in the IMF increased by $26 million to $4.925 billion.
The RBI data showed that total foreign exchange reserves stood at ₹69.81 lakh crore as of August 21.
The latest increase takes India’s forex reserves to their highest level on record, providing the country with a substantial external financial buffer.
