GUWAHATI: Eight people from Assam who were reported stranded in Nepal following a flash flood have been safely rescued, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday, August 29.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said Pankaj Verma, Samar Bezbaruah, Gautam Das, Gopal Debnath, Soneswar Narzary, Sarbison Marak, Silva Marak and Elphison Sangma are safe and are expected to return home on Sunday.
“Efforts are continuing to trace the others and ensure their safe return at the earliest,” Sarma said.
Earlier, 12 people from Assam had been reported missing in connection with the Nepal flash flood incident on August 28. The list included people from Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup Metropolitan and Nalbari districts.
The Assam government has been coordinating efforts to locate those still unaccounted for and facilitate the safe return of those rescued.
