GUWAHATI: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will establish an Advanced Radar Research Centre at Chandrapur in Assam as part of Project NETRA, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday, September 21.

Sarma said the foundation stone for the facility would be laid at Chandrapur, near Guwahati.
The centre is expected to strengthen India’s ability to track objects in space and help protect critical space assets, according to the Chief Minister.
Project NETRA, or Network for Space Object Tracking and Analysis, is an indigenous space situational awareness initiative of ISRO aimed at monitoring, cataloguing and predicting the movement of space objects, including orbital debris and near-Earth objects that could pose risks to satellites.
The facility is expected to contribute to India’s efforts to develop an independent capability for tracking and analysing objects in space.
