The alignment of the jurisdictions of the police stations was decided at the Superintendents of Police Conference held in 2025.

Subsequently, the Assam Police Headquarters submitted a proposal for the realignment of the boundaries of 312 police stations to make them co-terminus with the boundaries of the 126 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs).

The proposal was based on reports submitted by the Senior Superintendents of Police regarding the names of the boundary areas and the villages and towns (wards) included therein, following due verification and, wherever applicable, the exclusion and inclusion of the names of villages and wards.

The further reorganisation of police station boundaries within the respective Legislative Assembly Constituencies, wherever needed, will be carried out in due course of time.
