GUWAHATI: The Jyotikuchi-Budh Bazar Road in Guwahati has been facing severe civic issues, with stretches of the road riddled with potholes and garbage being dumped along the roadside, causing inconvenience to local residents.

The road hosts a weekly market every Wednesday, after which the leftover waste, including vegetables, fruits, poultry waste and other discarded materials, is allegedly not cleared properly. The residue remains scattered along the road, making it difficult for commuters to navigate the stretch, particularly in the days following the market.
Garbage has been piling up along the road, creating an unhygienic environment for residents. The accumulated waste could become a breeding ground for disease-causing organisms and pose health risks to people living in the area.
Residents also complain of a foul smell during rainfall, as rainwater mixes with the accumulated waste and stagnant water around the roadside.
Another major concern is the impact on the Bashistha River. Garbage dumped in the area is reportedly being carried into the river during rainfall, further contributing to pollution and affecting the surrounding environment.
The condition of the road and the unchecked garbage dumping have raised questions over regular waste management and maintenance of civic infrastructure in the area.
