GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, September 3, said the just concluded two day Superintendents of Police (SP) Conference primarily focused on maintaining law and order in the state and reducing crime rates and occurrences.

Sarma addressed a press briefing at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon following the conclusion of the conference. Superintendents of Police from all districts of Assam were also present at the conference.
The Chief Minister said that strengthening the police department and ensuring effective policing remained key areas of discussion during the conference.
“In this conference, we primarily focused on two key aspects: First, keeping a close eye to ensure that the law-and-order situation in the state does not deteriorate under any circumstances, and enabling us to make timely decisions at all times,” Sarma said.
He further highlighted the importance of effective crime investigation and ensuring that those found guilty are punished in order to reduce crime rates and occurrences.
“Second, to reduce crime rates and occurrences, the most critical aspect is crime investigation and ensuring punishment for the guilty. Assam Police has achieved unprecedented success in crime investigation and submitting charge sheets in court,” the Chief Minister added.
The conference focused on strengthening the policing system in the state, with emphasis on maintaining law and order, improving crime investigation and ensuring timely action against criminal activities.
