Speaking at a press briefing on the outcomes of the recently concluded Superintendents of Police (SP) Conference at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Sarma said the Centre has directed Assam to establish the specialised task force.

“The Centre has instructed us to establish an ANTF in the state,” Sarma said.

The proposed ANTF will be a new unit of the Assam Police and is expected to focus on tackling different stages of the narcotics network, including trafficking and distribution.

The announcement comes amid the state government’s efforts to strengthen its anti-drug operations and disrupt organised narcotics networks operating through Assam.
