GUWAHATI: A disturbing case of alleged animal cruelty has come to light in Vehbari Chuk under Rangia Police Station in Kamrup (Rural) district. According to a complaint filed with police, a local resident identified as Tapan Das allegedly attacked a puppy with a sharp weapon on July 14, 2026, inflicting fatal injuries on the animal.

The complaint states that Das claimed the dog had been fighting with his own pet dog, but alleges this explanation was false and used to justify the attack. It is further alleged that Das attacked the dog with sharp weapon and slashed his limb. After killing the animal, Das attempted to dispose of its body in a secluded spot in order to hide evidence of the incident.
The alleged incident has reportedly caused unease among residents in the area, who have expressed concern over the brutality of the act.
Police at Rangia Police Station have received the written complaint and are expected to look into the matter. Authorities are yet to confirm further details, and the allegations remain unverified pending investigation.
