GUWAHATI: The prime accused in the Dharapur-Garal murder case, Asik Ali, sustained bullet injuries in police firing in the early hours of Tuesday and is currently undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The incident took place around 3:30 AM when police allegedly took Asik Ali to the area to collect evidence and verify information, shortly before the end of his eight-day police remand.
During the process, Asik allegedly attempted to escape from police custody, following which police opened fire, hitting him in the right leg.
Asik sustained two bullet injuries to his right leg. He was initially taken to Garal Primary Health Centre for treatment and was later shifted to GMCH, where he was admitted to the Emergency Department at around 5:45 AM.
Doctors said the injuries were confined to his right leg, with no injuries reported to any other part of his body.
Asik Ali's police custody was scheduled to end on Tuesday.
He is currently undergoing treatment in the orthopaedics department at GMCH.
Asik Ali is also the key accused in the Gauhati University student Nimisha Thakuria death case.
