At Polling Station No. 58, Singari M.E.M. School, voting had not started due to a technical issue with the EVM, officials said.

Polling was also temporarily disrupted at Station No. 72 in East Sidhabari, Morigaon, following an EVM malfunction.

At Polling Station No. 94, Gerjaipam Adarsha ME School in Kachuwa under the Raha Assembly segment, voters reportedly had to wait for nearly three hours after the EVM developed a technical problem.

Meanwhile, AIUDF chief and candidate Badruddin Ajmal alleged that voting was taking unusually long when his party’s button was pressed at Polling Station No. 185 in Samaguri.

“We have lodged a complaint. There is a disruption/malfunction in the voting here,” Ajmal said, adding that he had informed the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and election observer.

Ajmal said officials were sending a replacement machine and that polling would resume after it arrived.

The Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election is being held on Tuesday, with 15 candidates in the fray. The key contest is between BJP’s Devashish Sharma, Congress’ Sibamoni Bora and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal.

Counting of votes is scheduled for October 9.
