NTPC Bongaigaon commemorated the first year since the passing of Assam’s musical icon Zubeen Garg with a Nahor plantation drive and a commemorative gathering organised by the Employees Welfare Association.
The plantation programme was held near the NTPC Bongaigaon Administrative Building, where Head of Project Arnab Maitra led the planting of Nahor saplings. Head of HR Amit Kumar Asthana, heads of departments, senior officials, employees and members of the Employees Welfare Association participated in the programme.
The saplings were planted in memory of Zubeen Garg, whose music, distinctive voice and contribution to Assam’s cultural life continue to resonate with people across generations. The initiative was also a symbolic tribute to his enduring influence beyond the world of music.
In the evening, employees, family members and children gathered at the Community Mandap to offer floral tributes and remember the singer’s life, music and connection with the people of Assam.
Speaking on the occasion, Arnab Maitra reflected on Zubeen Garg’s legacy and his ability to bring people together through music. He said Garg was more than a celebrated singer and had carried Assam’s language, emotions and identity to audiences across generations.
Employees and children also shared their memories of the singer and spoke about the place his songs continue to hold in their lives. His music was played during the gathering, creating an atmosphere of collective remembrance.
The commemorative programme brought together the NTPC Bongaigaon community to honour Zubeen Garg’s artistic legacy and remember his contribution to Assam’s cultural landscape.
