GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam remained critical on Wednesday, August 5, with overnight rainfall threatening fresh inundation in several low-lying areas. The flood-related toll has risen to 89, while more than 1.22 lakh people continue to be affected across five districts.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the Dhansiri River at Numaligarh in Golaghat district remained in a severe flood situation on Wednesday morning. Authorities have urged residents to stay away from the river as water levels continue to rise.
The latest ASDMA flood bulletin confirmed that two more people lost their lives in the past 24 hours—one each in Sivasagar and Golaghat districts—taking this year's flood-related toll to 89.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister JP Nadda is scheduled to visit the flood-hit areas during the day to assess the situation and review ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts with state officials.
With fresh rainfall continuing across parts of the state, authorities remain on alert over the possibility of renewed flooding in vulnerable areas.
