"I am fully cooperating with the police during the probe. I will come again tomorrow at 9.30 am," Khera said.
The Congress leader and national spokesperson appeared before the Crime Branch of the Assam Police in Guwahati on Wednesday in connection with a case linked to his alleged remarks against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Khera arrived at the Crime Branch office located at Pan Bazar during the day amid security presence in the area.
The case pertains to alleged controversial statements made by Khera targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma days ahead of the Assam elections. Following the remarks, an FIR was registered and the Assam Police Crime Branch initiated an investigation into the matter.
The appearance of the senior Congress leader has once again sparked political reactions in the state. While Congress leaders have alleged misuse of investigative agencies against opposition voices, BJP leaders have maintained that the law is taking its own course.
Sources indicated that Crime Branch officials are examining various aspects related to the alleged statements and related materials as part of the ongoing probe. However, officials have not disclosed details of the questioning process.
