The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and follows the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27. The government said the decision to keep banks open on Sunday has been taken to ensure that customers’ banking needs are not affected for an extended period.

The Reserve Bank of India has approved the opening of all bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches and Currency Chests on September 27.

The government said the move is aimed at ensuring the continued availability of essential banking services to the public.

The government and bank managements have also appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike and said steps have been taken to minimise disruption to banking services.
