GUWAHATI: A retired Assam Police Service (APS) officer succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, May 24, following an alleged assault triggered by a parking dispute in Guwahati’s Ghoramara area.

The deceased has been identified as Girin Chandra Deka, a former APS officer. According to preliminary reports, the incident stemmed from a confrontation over vehicle parking between Deka and a youth. What reportedly began as a verbal altercation soon turned violent, during which Deka was allegedly attacked and critically injured.
He was rushed to a hospital in Guwahati and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a serious condition. Despite undergoing treatment, Deka passed away yesterday.
Law enforcement authorities have detained one accused in connection with the case. The suspect, identified as Sanjit Boro, was apprehended by a team of Basistha Police during an operation carried out in Jorhat.
Officials said the body will be sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination on Monday, May 25.
A detailed investigation has been launched to look into the case.
