GUWAHATI: Several parts of Rukminigaon in Guwahati remained submerged on Friday, July 24, as floodwaters continued to inundate residential areas, forcing authorities to evacuate stranded residents using rubber boats.

Rescue operations have been underway since 7 am, with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and Civil Defence deployed to the affected locality.
Two rubber boats have been pressed into service to evacuate residents trapped inside their homes as floodwaters showed little sign of receding.
Residents said several households have been left without electricity and drinking water since Thursday night, adding to the hardship caused by the prolonged waterlogging.
Locals also alleged that no flood relief materials had reached the area till the time of reporting, even as rescue operations continued.
The flooding in Rukminigaon comes amid heavy rainfall across Guwahati and other parts of Assam on July 23, with several low-lying localities witnessing severe waterlogging due to overflowing drains and rising water levels.
As floodwaters persisted on Friday, normal life was severely disrupted, with several low-lying localities inundated, businesses remaining shut, and many residents trapped inside their homes as roads became impassable.
