Silchar Municipal Election: Dry Days Declared on October 2, 3 and 6


 

GUWAHATI: The Assam Governor has declared dry days in the Silchar Municipal Corporation area on October 2, October 3 and October 6 in view of the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election.

The order prohibits the possession, sale, supply, distribution and consumption of liquor and other intoxicating substances in the municipal corporation area during the notified period.

According to the order issued vide ECF No. 271931/801 dated September 11, October 2, the day before polling, and October 3, the polling day, will be observed as dry days. October 6, the day of counting, will also remain a dry day until the counting process is completed.

The day of any re-poll, if conducted, will also be treated as a dry day.

During the notified period, all wholesale liquor warehouses and IMFL retail ‘OFF’ and ‘ON’ shops, including Club ‘ON’, Hotel ‘ON’ and Country Spirit shops, will remain closed.

The order also restricts the storage of liquor by individuals during the dry days. Provisions of the Assam Excise law concerning the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises will be strictly enforced.

Violations will invite action under the relevant provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules as well as Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The order has been issued to ensure a free, fair and peaceful municipal election in Silchar.
