GUWAHATI: A banyan tree sapling was planted at an iconic location in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary where singer Zubeen Garg had filmed a music video, as a tribute to his contribution to promoting Assam’s tourism and biodiversity.

The sapling was planted at the site associated with the song “Run Jun Nupure Mate”, which was written by late Kailash Nath Sarma and featured Zubeen Garg as the singer, music composer and on-screen performer.
Tourism entertainer Nirud Mani Pandey, who was among those who helped connect Garg with Pobitora, and young Namraa Surya jointly planted the sapling following traditional Vedic rituals.
The ceremony was held on the open stretch near Haduk Beel along the Mayong–Sonapur State Highway.
The initiative also sought to highlight Garg’s association with Pobitora and his role in bringing attention to Assam’s natural landscapes through his music and visual work.
Local residents said planting the sapling at the historic shooting location was a step towards preserving its ecological significance while keeping alive Garg’s connection with Pobitora’s natural heritage.
