Five-Year Policy for Hydrocarbon Exploration and Upstream Development Approved by Assam Cabinet


 

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Cabinet has approved the Assam Hydrocarbon Exploration, Production and Upstream Ecosystem Development Policy, 2026, aimed at strengthening the state’s hydrocarbon exploration and production ecosystem.

The policy will remain valid for five years from the date of its notification.

The Cabinet also approved the operationalisation of eight new co-districts. The headquarters of the new co-districts will be located at central places to be identified by the respective District Commissioners in consultation with the Guardian Minister of the concerned district.

In another major administrative decision, the Cabinet approved the renaming of the Mini Secretariat, Barak Valley as Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, Silchar.

The Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, will accommodate the functioning of 32 of the state’s 59 departments, with the move aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and improving governance in the Barak Valley region.

The decisions were taken at the State Cabinet meeting chaired on Tuesday, August 18.
