Senior Professor of Geography Department of the University⁰ Madhushri Das has brought rare fame to the state by becoming a Fellow of the world famous Royal Geographical Society. He received this prestigious recognition for his outstanding research, original thinking and world-class research publications in the field of geography. This honor is only Dr⁰ Not only Das, but the entire educational community of Assam and North-East has given a new status in the global arena.
Dr⁰ Madhushri Das’ scope of research is very wide and varied. He has worked in depth, particularly on social, cultural and urban geography. These include contemporary and socially important topics such as the study of tribal societies, human-wildlife conflict, gender studies and sustainable development. His social oriented research and intellectual contributions have earned him special recognition in the international academic world today.
After this important achievement, Guwahati University Vice-Chancellor Professor Nani Gopal Mohanty congratulated Dr.⁰ Congratulations and best wishes to Madhushri Das. He said, this international award is a proud moment for Guwahati University. He said Prof. Das’ dedicated research and world-class educational contribution in geography has established Assam on the world stage. The Vice-Chancellor also hoped that this achievement would inspire the new generation of researchers and students to do better in the future.
Professor Dr⁰ Madhushri Das received her doctorate in 2009 for research on education, occupation and social change among tribal women in Assam. Since then, he has continuously pursued knowledge and made significant contributions to the academic world. He has already represented the intellectual level of Assam by presenting his research papers in international conferences in various countries like South Africa, Germany, Japan, Hungary and USA.
He has already published 72 research articles, 3 valuable books and 4 edited books during his long academic career. He has also successfully completed several important research projects under leading institutions like UGC and ICSSR. Dr. Das has earlier received the National Talent Search Award and has been instrumental in establishing international academic collaborations for Guwahati University. The award presented by a prestigious institution like Royal Geographical Society has once again proved the quality of higher education in Assam to the world.
