The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister won the trust vote, Jayalalithaa’s party got the support of 25 MLAs

A new chapter has begun in Tamil Nadu politics. Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam or TVK party leader Vijay has won the vote of confidence in the state assembly. He won the support of some MLAs from IUML, Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M) and AIADMK. The trust vote came after a series of meetings with allies, the opposition AIADMK, DMK and critic Seeman on Monday and Tuesday. IUML, VCK and Congress gave him their full support to form their first government in the state.

On the other hand, bad news came on AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami’s birthday. The party appears to be heading for a split as around 30 MLAs have extended their support to the Vijay-led government. MLAs led by senior leaders SP Velumani and CV Samugam accused Palaniswami of trying to form an alliance with the DMK. They also questioned Palaniswami’s leadership after the party’s poor performance in the assembly elections and supported the new TVK government.

In this dramatic environment in politics, VC chief Thol Thirumabhavan made a big claim. He said DMK and AIADMK are thinking of forming alliance to keep TVK party out of power. They offered Thirumabhavan to become the Chief Minister of this potential alliance, but he immediately rejected the offer.

On his second day as chief minister, Vijay announced the closure of over 700 government liquor shops in the state. These liquor shops were located within 500 meters of temples, schools and bus stations. However, he has also faced criticism for appointing his astrologer Radhan Pandit Vetrivel as Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty or OSD. It may be noted that this astrologer predicted a huge victory in the elections.
