Third Accident Reported on Pothole-Riddled NH-27 Near Khetri in Assam


 

GUWAHATI: Another road accident was reported at Dhupguri near Khetri in Sonapur on Wednesday, September 2, adding to growing concerns over the deteriorating condition of National Highway-27. The incident comes amid ongoing protests by locals following a series of accidents on the stretch that have claimed seven lives so far.

According to reports, a vehicle was travelling from Guwahati towards Jagiroad when the driver suddenly applied the brakes to avoid a large pothole on the highway.

A second vehicle, which was travelling behind it in the same direction, then collided with the vehicle from the rear.

Both vehicles suffered damage in the collision. However, no injuries or casualties were reported.

The stretch has reportedly witnessed several accidents in recent days due to its poor condition. A freight truck had also recently overturned after hitting the same large pothole.

Locals claimed that around three to four accidents take place every day along the stretch due to the numerous potholes. They have been demanding immediate repair and restoration of the highway, citing serious concerns over the safety of commuters.
