GUWAHATI: Basistha Police have busted an illegal parking racket operating in Guwahati’s Khanapara area and arrested three persons believed to be the masterminds behind the syndicate. The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Kapil Pathak on Tuesday night, June 2.

The accused have been identified as Nura Ali, Mukut Ali, and Jakir Ali. The trio had been running the racket for several years by illegally collecting parking fees from buses and commercial vehicles.
The culprits operated an unauthorized bus parking point in Khanapara and extorted money from drivers arriving from different parts of Assam, including Upper Assam and Lower Assam.
Drivers of buses and commercial vehicles were allegedly forced to pay between ₹200 and ₹300 in the name of parking charges. The syndicate is suspected to have generated thousands of rupees daily through the illegal operation.
Nura Ali and Mukut Ali are residents of Meghalaya while Jakir Ali hails from Baihata Chariali in Assam.
The accused trio have been taken into custody. Further investigation is underway.
