GUWAHATI: Three people, including a 10-year-old boy, died after a country boat capsized in the Ghilamara area of Lakhimpur district while they were crossing a river to take cattle for grazing on the other side.

The deceased have been identified as Ajit Dutta (25), Podma Dutta (50), and Midhusmi Dutta (10), all residents of Ghilamara.
According to police, information about the incident was received by the local police station on Sunday morning from a villager of Deolia Gaon. The three were crossing the Merbil River in a small dinghy to take cattle to a sandbar (sapori) on the other side when the boat suddenly capsized.
All three fell into the river and drowned.
Local residents noticed the incident and launched a search operation, recovering all three individuals from the water. The Ghilamara Police team reached the spot and took them to the Ghilamara Block Primary Health Centre (BPHC), where the on-duty doctor declared them dead on arrival.
During the initial enquiry, police found that none of the three knew how to swim.
Midhusmi Dutta and Podma Dutta belonged to the same household, while all three deceased were residents of the same village.
Following the incident, the Circle Officer of the Subansiri Revenue Circle conducted the legal inquest at the Ghilamara BPHC. After the inquest, the bodies were sent to Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Further enquiry is underway.
