GUWAHATI: Co-Dist. Superintendent of Police of Sarupathar in Golaghat, Dipen Patar, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a racket linked to the theft of crude oil from ONGC pipelines in the district’s Uriamghat area, police said on Thursday, September 10.

Briefing media, Golaghat SSP Swapnaneel Deka said the police arrested the officer based on information and technical evidence gathered during the investigation.
The SSP said that an FIR was launched by ONGC on August 3, complaining that there was crude oil theft worth about 2-3 tankers between July 25-27.
The police officer is allegedly accused of encouraging a gang involved in stealing crude oil by tampering an ONGC pipeline.
So far, five people, including Patar, have been apprehended in connection with the crude oil theft case.
According to the investigation, the stolen crude oil from Sarupathar area was allegedly transported outside the state. The Golaghat Police is now planning to expand the investigation beyond the state.
