Traffic Chaos in Guwahati’s Satgaon Raises Safety Concerns Among Commuters

GUWAHATI: Daily traffic congestion near Satgaon in Guwahati, an area where a couple of prominent city schools are located, has emerged as a major concern for commuters, students, and guardians, with the situation becoming increasingly chaotic during school hours.

Severe traffic jams are witnessed almost every morning and afternoon, particularly during school opening and dispersal timings. The absence of regular traffic police deployment in the area has further worsened the situation, often forcing school security guards to step in and manage the movement of vehicles on the busy stretch.

The problem is further aggravated by the unrestricted movement of heavy vehicles during peak school hours, adding to the congestion on the already overcrowded road. In addition, haphazard parking of vehicles by guardians along the roadside has become one of the primary reasons behind the daily bottlenecks.

Residents and commuters have also pointed out the lack of basic traffic-calming measures such as speed breakers, despite the presence of multiple schools in and around the area. The poor condition of the road, marked by several potholes and damaged patches, has made commuting not only inconvenient but also unsafe for both pedestrians and motorists.

The situation becomes even more difficult during the monsoon season, when waterlogging and flooding in the area intensify traffic snarls and increase safety risks for students, guardians, and daily commuters.

Several guardians have reportedly lodged complaints at Satgaon Police Station, demanding the deployment of traffic personnel during school hours to ensure smoother vehicular movement and improved safety in the area.
