In an official notification issued by the poll body, the EC stated that the MCC, which came into force from the date of the announcement of the election schedule, has now “ceased to be in operation with immediate effect.”
The order was addressed to the Cabinet Secretary of the Government of India, Chief Secretaries, and Chief Electoral Officers of the concerned states and Union Territory.
The Commission, however, clarified that the MCC would continue to remain in force in the 144-Falta Assembly Constituency in West Bengal, where fresh polling has been ordered.
Besides the Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, the Commission also noted that bye-elections were conducted in Assembly constituencies of Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura.
