GUWAHATI: A container truck skidded off the Saraighat Bridge and fell to the ground below in the early hours of Wednesday, May 20, after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to fatigue.

The incident occurred around 4 am when the truck was travelling from the Amingaon side towards Jalukbari. The vehicle veered off the bridge and plunged below, leaving both the driver and the handyman injured.
Both occupants were rescued by Jalukbari Traffic Police and immediately shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical treatment.
Speaking to GPlus, a traffic official from Jalukbari Police Station said, “It happened around 4 am. The truck was coming from Amingaon side. Both the driver and handyman were taken to GMCH and have been discharged. No major injuries were reported.”
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no additional damage was reported. Preliminary assessments suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep while driving, leading to the mishap.
