GUWAHATI: Two persons were arrested for allegedly hunting and slaughtering a monitor lizard near the Saralbhanga riverbank, between Raimona National Park and Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park in Assam's Kokrajhar district.

The arrests were made during a joint patrol conducted by personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) from the Saralpara Border Outpost (BOP) and forest staff of the Ultapani Range under the Haltugaon Forest Division on the night of July 5.
According to an official statement, the accused were apprehended at around 8:19 PM while allegedly engaged in the illegal hunting and slaughter of the protected reptile.
Following their arrest, the accused were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kokrajhar, and were subsequently remanded to judicial custody as per legal procedure.
