Adhikari said the decision was taken following a request from the victim’s mother, who is now a BJP MLA. He said the fresh probe would be conducted under the Special Commission Act, 1952, after discussions with the chief secretary and a team of experts.

“Ratna Debnath had written to me, requesting a fresh investigation. After extensive discussions with the chief secretary and a team of experts, I am announcing a fresh investigation under the Special Commission Act, 1952,” he said.

The Chief Minister also alleged that the police had failed to perform their duty in the case and ordered a separate probe into alleged lapses in the victim’s cremation, directing immediate action against those responsible.

Meanwhile, a two-minute silence was observed at government hospitals across West Bengal on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of the incident. The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front, which led extensive protests in 2024, also organised a clinic for underprivileged people in Chitpur, north Kolkata.
