The suspended police officer was granted bail by a single-judge bench of the Gauhati High Court led by Justice Rajesh Mazumdar. Senior advocate A.K. Bhuyan represented him during the hearing.
Speaking to the media after his release, Sandipan Garg said he had faith in the judicial process and expressed confidence that the truth would eventually come out.
“The court is investigating the matter. Let the case be heard in court. Let justice be served through the court. The truth will always prevail. When the people of Assam come to know the truth, my brother’s soul will get justice,” he said.
Sandipan Garg, a cousin of the deceased singer, has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore on September 19, 2025. The Gauhati High Court is separately hearing a petition seeking to quash the chargesheet filed against him.
His release comes after the High Court granted bail to another accused, Amrit Prabha Mahanta, on October 9. She was released after furnishing a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties for the same amount.
Earlier, on September 23, a special court granted bail to Zubeen Garg’s personal security officers (PSOs), Nandeswar Borah and Paresh Baishya, in a disproportionate assets case. However, the two remain in custody in connection with the singer’s death.
Zubeen Garg died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea off Singapore on September 19, 2025. He was in the country to attend the fourth edition of the North East India Festival.
Those arrested in connection with the case include festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Amrit Prabha Mahanta, Sandipan Garg and the two PSOs.
