GUWAHATI: A memorial space dedicated to late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg was inaugurated at Rajgarh in Guwahati on Tuesday, September 2, by his wife, Garima Saikia Garg.

The inauguration ceremony saw religious leaders and representatives from different faiths offering prayers and reciting sacred verses, with the event reflecting the singer’s secular outlook.
Speaking at the event, Garima Saikia Garg said Zubeen had spent nearly 15 years in Rajgarh and shared a deep connection with the area. Appreciating the initiative, she said, “People want to pay their respects to Zubeen Garg before beginning a good work, and this place is for everyone.”
The memorial, named ‘Zubeen Khetra’, has been set up by journalist and cultural activist Hemanta Sarma at Rajgarh, an area where Zubeen Garg lived for several years.
Sarma said the initiative was intended to preserve Zubeen Garg’s memory and his contribution to music and culture. He also said the Rajgarh memorial was a personal initiative and should not be seen as competing with Zubeen Garg’s samadhi at Sonapur, which is also known as ‘Zubeen Khetra’.
The memorial is located opposite the approach road to Rajgarh No. 2 Bylane, beneath the old ‘Abhinaya’ building.
