GUWAHATI: Assam Police detained more than 26 young women, including a minor, during raids on two spa centres inside a shopping mall in Silchar's Cachar district late on the night of June 25, after receiving intelligence that the establishments were allegedly operating a prostitution racket under the guise of massage services.

The operation was carried out at Lovely Spa and Lotus Spa following multiple complaints and specific inputs about suspected illegal activities. Police said the action was part of an ongoing effort to crack down on organised vice operating under the cover of legitimate businesses.
All those detained were taken for medical examination before being brought to Silchar Sadar Police Station for questioning. Authorities said the investigation is underway to identify the owners, operators and any other persons suspected to be linked to the alleged racket.
Police are also scrutinising the spas' licences, business records and other relevant documents to determine whether the establishments were functioning in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
