The initiative is aimed at creating accessible spaces for students, researchers and readers, while expanding learning and reading infrastructure across the city.
Announcing the initiative in a post on X, Sarma said the libraries would help ensure that the lack of suitable spaces does not become a barrier to learning opportunities.
Speaking to the media, Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania said the project would be implemented through a partnership between the GMC and the State Bank of India.
“The initiative will be taken up by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation in partnership with the State Bank of India. The CSR funds of SBI will be utilised for building the libraries,” Sarania said.
The proposed libraries are expected to provide dedicated spaces for reading, studying and academic work, particularly benefiting students and researchers who may not have access to suitable study facilities.
The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen public learning infrastructure in Guwahati and create more accessible spaces for education and reading across the city.
