57-Year-Old Woman Rescued From Brahmaputra After Falling From Ferry Near Guwahati


 

GUWAHATI: A 57-year-old woman was rescued from the Brahmaputra River after she reportedly fell overboard from a ferry near the Gateway of Guwahati on Wednesday, August 19.

The woman was identified as Khanteshwari Khatnar, 57, a resident of Dhupartal in Nalbari. 

The 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a river rescue operation after receiving a distress alert at around 11:05 AM regarding a passenger who had fallen into the river.

Sub-Team 1-L, stationed at Madhyam Khanda Ghat in North Guwahati and led by Inspector Anurag Kumar Singh, was deployed with specialised water-rescue equipment.

The team reached the initial incident site at around 11:45 AM and began a downstream search. At around 12:10 PM, rescuers located the woman approximately 2.5 kilometres downstream from the reported incident site and pulled her safely from the water.

She was brought to Lachit Ghat and handed over to Emergency Medical Services for further medical evaluation and care in the presence of Assam Police Sub-Inspector Chhaynika Medhi.
