GUWAHATI: The 2026–27 general elections of Guwahati’s Arya Vidyapeeth College (Autonomous) were held on Thursday, September 24, with AASU-backed candidates securing a majority of the student union posts.

According to the election results, AASU-backed candidates won 12 of the 16 posts, including several key positions such as Vice President, General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary.
Sudarshan Sharma was elected Vice President, while Jugal Kishor Kalita secured the General Secretary’s post and Monjit Saikia was elected Assistant General Secretary. Daisy Borah won the Secretary of Music and Cultural Section post unopposed.
Meanwhile, ABVP-backed candidates also secured three posts in the election, including the Secretary of Debates and Symposia, Secretary of General Sports and Secretary of Girls’ Common Room.
The President’s post was won by Ashim Ilahi, an independent candidate, making it the only top post not secured by either of the two student organisations.
The results were declared following the college’s student union elections for the 2026–27 academic session.
