The demonstration was part of a statewide agitation called by AASU across all district headquarters to oppose the uncontrolled rise in prices of food items and daily essentials.
During the rally, protesters carried symbolic props of food items to voice outrage over the mounting financial burden on common citizens and criticized government failure to regulate market rates.
Key demands submitted by the student body include immediate control and reduction of continuous price increases, urgent measures to stop the unchecked inflation of daily essential food products, and proper market regulation to relieve the economic stress placed on the public.
Kamrup Metro District Students’ Union President Dipjyoti Malakar and General Secretary Samiran Kalita said that people are facing severe difficulties due to what they described as wrong government policies and inadequate market regulation.
The student leaders warned that if the government fails to take steps to control prices, the union will intensify its agitation in the coming days.
AASU central executive members Alakesh Nath and Jiten Das, along with office bearers of the district committee, were also present during the protest.
