Hundreds of flood-affected people from Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat districts joined the protest, alleging that the government has failed to provide them with the assistance they are entitled to, even more than three months after the floods.
The protesters demanded an end to alleged irregularities in the distribution of flood relief and immediate assistance for all affected families. They also sought ₹10 lakh in compensation for families whose homes and belongings were destroyed in the floods.
Another key demand was a CBI inquiry into the causes of the floods in Upper Assam.
A large number of flood victims travelled from different parts of Upper Assam to Chachal to participate in the demonstration. Many said they were still struggling to rebuild their lives after losing their homes and crops to the floods.
Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi said the party had obtained the necessary permission for the programme.
Gogoi warned that the Raijor Dal would intensify its protests if the government failed to address its demands following the September 23 demonstration.
