GUWAHATI: An incident involving an acid burn was reported from the Odalbakra area of Guwahati on Thursday, April 30, with police yet to ascertain whether it was an attack or an accident.

According to initial reports, the incident took place inside a jewellery shop where a heated argument broke out between a jeweller, identified as Arup Baishya, and his brother-in-law. During the scuffle, acid stored inside the shop allegedly fell on Baishya, leaving him injured.
Police said that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. “It is not yet clear whether it is an attack or an accident. However, the victim sustained acid burns on his back,” an official from Odalbakra Police Station told G Plus.
Baishya was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Bhangagarh, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the acid came into contact with the victim and to establish the sequence of events leading to the incident.
