The victims, identified as 40-year-old Kartik Rabha and his son Bhrigumoni Rabha who was 8 years old, died on the spot when a dead and weakened tree suddenly toppled onto their moving two-wheeler near the Muduki-Hatigarh Chowk.
According to media reports, the father-son duo was travelling from Mataikhar Salser to a relative's residence in Rajapara when the accident occurred. The tree, which was standing along the roadside, unexpectedly collapsed and crashed directly onto the scooter, leaving both victims with fatal injuries.
Local residents and eyewitnesses immediately informed the authorities after witnessing the horrifying incident. Officials from Palashbari Police Station in Mirza rushed to the spot and launched recovery operations. The bodies were retrieved from beneath the fallen tree, and the road was later cleared to restore traffic movement.
The tragic accident has left the local community in shock and mourning. The incident has also renewed concerns over the condition of ageing and weakened roadside trees, highlighting the need for regular inspections and timely removal of potentially hazardous trees to prevent similar mishaps in the future.
