The other victim was a Saudi citizen, while eight people were injured in the incident. The injured include nationals of India, Yemen and Bangladesh, as well as a Saudi resident of Bangladeshi nationality.
The attack comes amid intensifying strikes by Yemen’s Houthi forces, which Saudi Arabia has faced almost daily this month. These attacks have also targeted other locations in the kingdom, including Riyadh’s international airport.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh said it was gathering further information about the incident and reaching out to the affected families.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased and we wish speedy recovery of the injured,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X.
Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said officials were assessing the damage caused by the attack. Airport operations have since resumed, and air traffic has returned to normal.
On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry reported that falling debris from the successful interception of a drone targeting an oil facility had killed two people and injured two others.
Earlier, on Sunday, the Indian Embassy had urged Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to follow the latest safety instructions issued by local authorities in response to emergency alerts.
The guidelines advised people to remain calm, follow official instructions and immediately move to the nearest safe place inside a building. They were also instructed to remain indoors until authorities confirmed it was safe to leave.
