GUWAHATI: A 28-year-old Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) employee, Jitu Boro, died after reportedly suffering an electric shock while on duty in Guwahati’s South Sarania area on Friday, September 25.

Boro, a resident of Dimoria in Sonapur, had reportedly cleared the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) and joined the Electricity Department as a technician around six months ago, according to his family.
“He very recently joined APDCL. It’s almost six months since he joined and he is working somewhere in Ulubari. He joined as a technician for APDCL” Boro’s uncle told media.
According to Boro’s family members, he had been instructed to climb an electricity pole for maintenance work. The family alleged that the power supply had not been disconnected and that Boro had not been provided basic safety equipment, including protective gloves and a helmet.
Boro reportedly suffered an electric shock after climbing the pole and died at the spot.
His family has alleged negligence and demanded a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
“Jitu’s marriage was fixed for this October,” a family member said.
The allegations of negligence have not been independently established. Further details regarding the incident are awaited.
