GUWAHATI: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a man while he was carrying his mother's body for the final rites in Guwahati's Azara area on Saturday, July 18.

The deceased, identified as Parag Das, was serving as the Sub-Postmaster at Bijoynagar. His 68-year-old mother, who had reportedly been suffering from prolonged illness for nearly two years, passed away at their residence in Hatkhowapara on Friday night.
On Saturday morning, family members began the funeral procession according to traditional rituals and were heading towards the cremation ground. However, the procession turned tragic before reaching its destination.
According to preliminary information, Parag Das was carrying his mother's body on his shoulders while crossing National Highway 17 when a speeding truck allegedly hit him from behind. The impact proved fatal, and he died on the spot.
The incident left family members and local residents in shock as Das lost his life moments before he was to perform his mother's last rites.
A relative, who later performed the final rites of Parag Das's mother, told the media that he had to complete the rituals following Das's sudden death. Describing the incident as unprecedented in the Azara area, the relative said the truck hit Das from behind, leaving no time for anyone to react.
Parag Das is survived by his son and daughter. His untimely death has left his family and relatives devastated.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and further details are awaited.
