Apollo Hospitals Guwahati has launched a Full Endoscopic Spine Surgery programme under its Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery initiative, aiming to strengthen advanced spine care services across Northeast India.
The announcement was made during a press meet held in Guwahati on Saturday, May 23, where senior neuro and spine surgeons, along with hospital officials, highlighted the growing burden of spine-related disorders and the increasing demand for advanced treatment options in the region.
According to the hospital, the newly introduced Monopartal Full Endoscopic Spine Surgery technique is designed to provide minimally invasive treatment for a wide range of spinal conditions, including chronic back pain, slipped disc, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and nerve compression. The programme focuses on faster recovery, reduced pain, minimal blood loss, and quicker return to normal activities for patients.
Speaking at the event, senior neuro and spine surgeon Dr. Shameem Ahmed said that lower back pain has become an increasingly common health issue due to poor posture, unhealthy lifestyle habits, and spinal injuries. He noted that many patients from Assam and the Northeast still travel outside the region for specialised spine treatment.
He added that the initiative aims to make advanced spine surgery more accessible and affordable for patients closer to home while also reducing hospital stays and treatment costs.
Renowned endoscopic spine surgeon Dr. Gaurav Chamble also spoke about the clinical advantages of Monopartal Full Endoscopic Spine Surgery. He explained that the procedure is performed through a very small incision using advanced endoscopic imaging systems, allowing surgeons to treat spinal conditions with minimal damage to surrounding muscles and tissues.
According to him, the technique significantly lowers post-operative pain, reduces the risk of complications and infections, and enables patients to resume daily activities much earlier compared to conventional open spine surgery.
A patient who had previously undergone endoscopic spine surgery at Apollo Hospitals Guwahati also attended the press meet and shared her experience of quick recovery and satisfaction with the surgical outcome.
